I bought an Inspiron 15 last week. Great laptop. It came with an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam, managed by a program called Dell Webcam Central.

Program worked perfectly OK, until I downloaded an update from Windows Update, labeled as important, which is new drivers for the webcam.

These new drivers doesnt affect the camera performace, it works perfectly with MSN messanger, but, Dell Webcam Central says there s no webcam attached to the computer.

I had to remove those drivers, and remove the Dell Webcam software copletely, then download drivers from Dell, and reinstall the webcam suite, problem solved.

Thing is, Windows Update is prompting me to download those drivers again, labeling them as an important update. Of course I don t want to go tru all that problem again.

If I accept that update again, is there a way to re-attach the webcam to the Dell software, without having to uninstall and reinstall everything again. Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey, I ran webcam diagnostics on the and it shows the problem exactly. It does not register there being an integrated webcam at all in the firstplace. Even though it works for skype and the Windows 8 camera app. But it works nowhere else, and the camera is undetectable.

I have the same problem with my Inspiron 1525 I got a week agoafter the update.webcam central tells me to plug in a supported webcam when I have one built in. I too would like to get this fixed without having to roll back or ignore the important updates. If anyone has a fix, it would be greatly appreciated.

trvr

As reported elsewhere on this forum, this problem is almost always solved by plugging in or unplugging and plugging in again a USB function such as a mouse, as if by magic the webcam appears as long as the webcam central window is open. This happened on my brand new inspiron 15 too. No need to go around installing drivers etc I have done this too.

Come on Dell, time to sort this out.  Its a factory-installed defect. How many machines are you having call-outs to fix under warranty by less inventive customers.

Haha, it worked.

I plugged my sandisk flash drive while running the dell webcam program, and it detected the webcam right away. very odd.

Bet it s a glitch really easy to fix, como on Dell get on it.

What a weird thingfollowed the advice plugged in my wireless usb mouse and it started right up. thanks for the temp fix.

vinodachu

sorry this thing doesnt work for me..mine is also dell inspiron 1525 and i can start webcam integrated from yahoo messenger and erwebcam broadcaster but i failed to start it on dell webcam center it says nosupported driver installed pls install using dell resource cd. i already installed the creative lab 1.3 mp driver.on my device manager it shows integrated camera and shows a list of drivers of it.i unninstall it and scan for hardware changes then it accept usb video and driver usbvideo.sys.but all this drivers accepted by the above mentioned application except dell central. I want to view my webcam in central coz the others have limited functions and resolution low for broadcasting. i checked at my level best to correct it. .Is there anyone who can help me to solve the issue.

Just found this post from a google search.  I had the same problem with a new Inspiron 15 we got last night.  Worked fine, then installed MS Updates and then no worky.

Got a regular USB corded mouse and plugged in in while webcam central was open and a couple seconds later it just fixed itself.

Thanks 4 ur kind reply. But things gone against me still now.I didn t install any MS updates and i tired of doing things above tips not working. But my webcam still recognized by other application except dell central.I didnt find the real solution

Wyllow

That was beautiful I did just like you suggested, and it worked without a hitch. Someone needs to email Dell Support and let them know that this is a problem.

hey guys  i have a problem with my webcam my computer is inspiron 1545 my webcam is working but its very slow the image moves every five minutes please help.

check the settings in webcam central, make sure that it is not set to time lapse video, and set it to normal video if it is. If it is still messed up go to add/remove programs and remove the dell webcam central, and any other dell webcam software. Then go to start control panel hardware and sound then next to devices and printers click device manager if your using vista and not 7 it is start control panel hardware and sound scroll down and click on device manager. Once in device manager, look for imaging devices, expand the option by clicking on the , right click the webcam and select properties, click on the driver tab, then uninstall. Then finally find your Dell CD that is labeled Drivers and Utilities or it might be labeled Resource CD or something like that. Insert the CD and find the driver for the webcam on it, extract it, and then follow the prompts to re-install the driver which also reinstalls the Dell Webcam central. When it asks to restart now or later, select later. When it goes back to the CD contents click the x to close the window. Remove the CD, then restart the PC. Try to run the webcam central again, if your webcam is still very slow, I suspect you have a hardware problem with the webcam itself. If your machine is still under warranty you can contact Dell support and have it sent in. If it is not under warranty you should be able to ask them about replacement options, but this may require more money than your willing to spend, so the logical next step would be to buy another webcam that is external to your laptop, the kind that clips on the monitor, it should work perfectly or else return it and try again. These are your only real options.

As far as the webcam software I found this forum from searching for my own problem with the webcam software on an Inspiron 1464 laptop. Dell Webcam center showed me the same problem others here are having as it said that my webcam driver could not be found, but when I clicked on start all programs Dell webcam Dell webcam central and ran it, my webcam worked perfectly. I had problems installing the drivers when I first purchased it and I think that Dell webcam center was software that the Dell support tech told me to download, needless to say the Dell Webcam central software on the drivers and utilities disk works perfectly.

deples

I hope my webcam at inspiron 1464 core i3 working too, but no driver support from dell support center. it will be nice if we have cd driver bundled with laptop when we buy. but theres no driver for dell n series.

anyone h who know driver for my laptop, please reply

I ve had this same problem going on for a long time. I ve tried various things to get the web cam to work. . I did find that the USB suggestion worked for me. I plug in my flash drive it will pop up. You have to first open your Dell web cam central program have it tell you it s not working. Then. . while it s still up running you plug in your flash drive or whatever. It will pop up. . or at least it does for me. It wont work if you don t have the program up first.

For the people that cannot get this to work. . something else I just did might help. I downloaded Skype to use the cam on. . when I went into the settings viewed my web cam it worked without web cam central. That s not so odd because it also does this in Yahoo Messenger. But here s the thing. . since I ve configured it in Skype. . anytime I run Dell web cam central it works. . without the USB fix. It s actually running on it s own. I have NO idea why. I don t have the Skype application running either. If you cannot get this to work with the USB. . at least give this a try.

bjhomer

I have an Inspiron 1750 with the same issue.  The USB trick worked for a short time, but it has no effect now.  Apparently the real problem is that Win7 does not have drivers for Integrated Web Cams yet.  A patch or a whole new piece of software needs to be written.  In the meantime, we are screwed.  I tried teh Skype idea and it didn t make any difference either.

rob kermit

Hello Bjhomer,

I have the same laptop and have searched everywhere for the solution to this problem for quite some time, and have finally come up with a working solution. This has been verified to work on Windows 7 64-bit.

These files are actually for the Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop which my fiancee has but the camera is the same in both the 1750 and 1440.

The files you will need are as follows. You will need both files in order to install the webcam. You can find them by searching for them on Google:

R216115 R216115.exe - Webcam Drivers

R230103 Dell_SX2210-Monitor_Webcam SW RC1.1_ R230103.exe - Webcam Central

I truly hope this works as well for you as it did for me.

Cheers,

Joe

Thank you SO much.. I will try this later to day and post back the results.

I hope that it does. I ll be waiting for your results.

By the way, if you search for the R numbers in Google the numbers I have in parenthesis that are in my original message, the first result for each should be the download from Dell.

Thank you, it did take me right to the Dell downloads.  I installed them both, in the order you gave them, and the first said, an error occurred but when I closed that it immediately gave me the Finish screen with the option to restart now or not I did  Then I installed the second one, no error, ended with the same finish options, allowed the restart, and no go.  So I reinstalled number 1 and tried again.  still nothing.  Am i missing a step.

What kind of error did it give you. Something you can try:

Start Right click Computer Properties Device Manager

Under Imaging Devices, uninstall the Integrated Webcam right click on it and then click Uninstall

Now try to install the driver pack.

an error occurred while setting up the driver

the auto installer for new hardware keeps kicking in and reinstalling it while the new drivers are trying to install.  how do I disable that..

Hi Joe,

Thanks for sharing this.   I have Studio 1558 on Win7 64bit and after reinstallation of the windows, the webcam software is not included in the resource CD.  I have requested to Dell and they sent me the Webcam CD.  I installed, the Dell webcam central software is working but give a warning Please Plug your Webcam   Tried a couple of time to reinstall but doesn t work, and plugging USB also dídn t work.    Then I tried your suggestion, it worked immediately :

For those who wants to install, I d like to share what I did with both files:

1. I uninstall the webcam driver which is already installed by Win7.  This Microsoft driver actually work on Yahoo Messenger and Skype but not on Dell Webcam Center

2. Install  R216115 R216115.exe - Webcam Drivers.  It will say ERROR on installation, leave it and DON T Restart

3. Install R230103 Dell_SX2210-Monitor_Webcam SW RC1.1_ R230103.exe - Webcam Central this is actually the same software as the one in the CD that I got.  After installation complete, then you can Restart.

It worked for me.  Thanks again Joe

Denny

Success  And another oddity, occasionally the light on the camera will blink as though it is having difficulty functioning.  When that happens, I close the lid and open it again my settings are not to shut off the laptop with closing the lid and it picks right up and works again.  Weird.  Anyway, I have my camera back.. Thanks, all.

Hi,

I ve tried to installed the driver R230103 Dell_SX2210-Monitor_Webcam SW RC1.1_ R230103.exe - Webcam Central for my inspiron 1440 and my webcam is now working properly.

I recently had the same problem, I would try to use my webcam and after a few minutes it would tell me to plug in a supported device. Here is the simple solution to solve the problem. UNINSTALL Microsoft Silverlight.. This is what interferes with the Dell Drivers and the Webcam functioning properly.

This was in one of the Windows updates, and I like another poster did, downloaded it and my webcam wouldn t work properly. I was not given an option to roll back the drivers as Dell suggested, so I did a little research on my system and found that Microsoft Silverlight is what was causing my issue.

Once I uninstalled Silverlight and re-downloaded the Dell drivers my webcam has worked fine since.

chemibob

Bought Inspiron 1764 in March 2010 - webcam tested and working on receipt. I not use again until 2 days ago when i set up a Skype account and found that my video link did not work - Webcam Central gave message please plug in your webcam - tried reinstalling drivers following procedure on the support website but failed to establish connection. Skype message -failed to find webcam.

I then checked for Microsoft Silverlight and found this had been installed in an automatic update in September 2010 . I followed your advice and uninstalled this programme. Reinstalled Dell drivers and webcam wrked with Skype immediately.

Thank you for suggesting a simple and effective fix to a frustrating problem

Hello. I think you have an Inspiron N7010. I can t find a model named N1710.

If you are having a problem when using Dell Download Manager, then use the browser to download instead of the Manager. The Download Manager FAQ explains how to do that. Also earlier in this thread PudgyOne has a link to his Wiki article on the subject.

Or if you are unable to find the Webcam Central on your downloads page, see this Dell article which gives instructions on where to find that application.

Dear rick aka pudgyone

I read through the entirety of that documentDid exactly as it toldI was able to get my webcam working but i had to download the. 35 version.but i am not able to use the latest version. 44..i downloaded the latest version and it didnt work so had to delete/uninstall again and get the. 35 version which is working at the moment phew.

But what if it keeps asking for the new version upgrade. why this problem.  Be grateful if you can solve it

Thanx for getting my webcam to work again  Cheers

DrSam,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have a friend that will look into the information you provided.

Open Dell Webcam Central. Click on the. then click on options

After you click on options, then you should see

Uncheck the box that says, Automatically check for updates of Dell Webcam Central when your computer is online.

This should keep the version of Dell Webcam Central that you have installed.

Apex09

After searching/reading this and other posts in regards to the integrated webcam not working I am still unable to get mine running.  The device manager does not list the webcam as recognized and no combination of the above listed drivers/software uninstall/reinstall etc. has worked thus far.  All of these fixes seem to be for a recognized webcam with bad/old webcam central software.  I ve updated all the webcam central and attempted to reinstall the webcam itself but Windows 7 still does not recognize the webcam in the firstplace.  Is there another issue at hand with 7. or is there something else I am missing.  My laptop was purchased in 7/11 and again, I followed all the above listed remedies.

Apex09,

Laptops that came with Vista/XP installed, that had webcams, the drivers for the webcams are listed at Drivers Downloads enter your service tag number, then look under mouse and keyboards.

If the operating system was upgraded to Windows 7, make sure to installl hte drivers in the correct order. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Then use the webcam drivers and install them in the Compatibility mode

Windows 7 is supposed to provide the drivers for most webcams but some models still have drivers available for download. If you read through the article

Using and Troubleshooting the Dell Webcam and Dell Webcam Central Software

It explains what to do. If you need to contact Dell Tech Support to correct the issue or not. If you do need to, please click on the blue PudgyOne then on the next page, click send message. I have a few questions to ask.

j1sproductions

I have a Dell XPS L702X with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

The webcam wasn t working with Skype. Tried everything and anything from these forums and plenty of others over the last week.

My solution has been to directly plug into my modem with a cable, and disable the wifi adapter.

My guess is that the driver usbvideo.sys is conflicting with the wifi drivers.

The issue is nothing to do with the Dell software, as when I disable the wifi the webcam works in all software. It s just the driver and wifi that s the problem.

I would appreciate a better solution as I can only Skype from one room at the moment.

j1sproductions,

Did you try installing the Quanta Drivers.

Try the troubleshooting at

Latest version of Skype.

If you have Fast Access Facial Recongition Software

Open Skype, click on tools, options, video settings. Above the image, you can select a webcam. select FA Virtual Cam

The same thing happened to me, and I had read through all of these replies to see if there was a solution to the problem. I was able to plug in a removable disc for a quick fix, but eventually even that would stop working. Even when it did work, I could not move the computer whatsoever or it would shut off and say the cable wasn t plugged in. After MUCH time and effort and going back and forth with Dell trying every possible option they finally were able to fix it simply by sending a technician to replace the mother board, cable, and camera. Working just like new. DO NOT let them reimage your computer, because that isn t the issue, just a connection issue so replacing those previously mentioned will keep all of your files. Hope this helps

My Dell Webcam Problem has been solved by Dell Tech Support Online Chat on July 5, 2012.

Please try my solution. Worth to try.

I bought Dell XPS 14z in April 2012. On July 5, I format my HDD and re-install the windows 7 64-bit and all drivers.

All drivers are working fine except the webcam, which show error message when launch Dell Webcam Center:

No supported webcam driver detected. Please install the webcam driver using the Dell Resource CD and launch Webcam Center again.

Then I contact Dell tech Support online chat via this link:

support.dell.com//contact_technical_support

I spent 3 hours with the Dell Agent Tech Support, first assisted by Agent Uttam give solution to update BIOS driver which doesn t solve the problem and second assisted by Agent Agni who solves the problem.

Finally the webcam works by just installing Dell SX2210 Monitor Driver, please find the driver in this link:

By installing Dell SX2210 Monitor driver, you will automatically get new Dell Webcam software, named Dell Webcam Central.

Please note that Dell Webcam Center is different with Dell Webcam Central.

I guess the one that show error message No supported webcam driver detected. is from Dell Webcam Center, the old software.

If you have file installer named DellWebcamSW, it s the old software Dell Webcam Center.

Please try to remove it from Control Panel - Add/Remove Program. Then try to download and install driver for Dell SX2210 Monitor via the link above.

That s it. It s worth to try.

I have an XPS L702x. My webam appears in harware manager, which says it is fuctioning properly. Create a new unrestricted user account and try the webcam. If it works, then log out and log back in to your account. Try the webcam, it should work.

If the webcam does not work with the new unrestricted user account, then the webcam came loose from the motherboard, usually at the top of the screen, near the webcam. If under warranty, contatc Dell tech Support.

Try this. Go to the Inspiron 1120 downloads page. select Win 7 32-bit or Win 7 64-bit in the operating system box, then expand the Drivers for OS Deployment category. If you have a non-touch screen, download the U2412M monitor driver. If you have a touch screen, download the ST2220T driver. with luck those will have the webcam software embedded.
