I am trying to find an 8 iron for a buddy of mine who lost his. It was a Callaway Big Bertha with a RCH 96 firm. I have seen the 96 listed as reg. flex and firm and the same with the 90. I am not a Callaway man at all so I would appreciate any help on this. Is the 90 and 96 designate weight in grams. RCH 96 firm is what I am looking for but trying to broaden my options if possible.Thanks

The numbers relate to weight, and are available in different flexes. Personally I d change all the shafts, but Callaway has made their branded shafts shafts only available to the public. So, you could just get any eight iron, and put that shaft in it. Bring your wallet though- them shafts are spendy.

I would reshaft the whole set. Not because it is hard to match, but rather that Callaway was not known for great shaft quality in standard sets. Even now you have to pay extra for decent shaft. Apologies in advance to M10 lovers, I just never liked that shaft.

Thanks for the input. I was wrong with the RCH 96 firm, he actually has the RCH 90 firm which I have found out is even worse than the the 96. I don t believe he is interested in reshafting his set.he shoots in the 110 s and seems happy with what he s got.

I always thought the number 90, 96 corresponded with the years that the shafts were first introduced. I think Callaway also had an RCH 35 shaft special order for their woods. That can t be the weight. I remember when they first brought out the RCH 90 shaft when they introduced their new driver with the Sir Isaac Newton commericals and the year when they introduced their new black shafts RCH 96 into the big bertha irons. The year was 1996. But I also do remember when they first brough out the Big Bertha irons that they had the RCH 90 shafts. Am I just blabbing here. I still have the Warbird Deuce with the RCH 90 shaft strong flex. It s the best fairway wood I ve ever played with. Can t seem to find one better. IMO the RCH 90 shaft was the best they ever put into their clubs. The 96 was a peace of junk.
